Decorating A Boys’ Bedroom

Boys might enjoy rough and tumble activities but they enjoy designing too, especially when it comes to their own rooms. These days’ boys are more opinionated than they used to about their bedroom decor. Not only that but parents can get really creative here and maybe at the same time reminisce about the things they enjoyed as children too.

Today the colors that are most popular in boys’ rooms include classic brown and green. In the past the colors have been bold; red or a navy blue.

There are several themes you can choose from when it comes to boys’ rooms. You want the theme to match your son’s personality. You don’t want to use nursery decor to decorate your child’s room. He’s ready for something bigger.

Most young boys just love bugs, so this could be a good theme to try. Remember how often your boy dug around outside, bringing bugs back to show you. Accessories which work well here are framed insect pictures, a frog lamp and netting in the corner.

Auto racing is another popular theme for boys. If he has a collection of cars, add them to the shelves in his room. Purchase a checkered flag and hang up some of his favorite car posters to complete the look.

Dinosaurs are another popular look for boys. It may be the cute cartoon version of dinosaurs or it may be the big ferocious dinosaur that is scarry. Because they usually don’t stay with the dinosaur theme long try to decorate with decorations that come off or can be covered easily.

Another popular theme is outer space. What boy hasn’t been fascinated by the mysteries of space at some stage? You can create this look with a rocket headboard for the bed, dark blue walls and space themed linens and wall borders. If you think back to school and science fair projects you could probably create a model solar system with foam craft balls and paint.

Sports are important to almost any boy. Create a headboard using bats and add a display shelve showcasing his collection of baseball cards, trophies, gloves, balls, and purchase a baseball lamp.

Use some of his creative art work to display in frames hanging on his wall. This is a great way to show him that you are proud of his accomplishments. Add medals, trophies, and other awards that he has won in the past.

Purchase an area rug to complete the look. You can purchase an area rug that matches the theme you have chosen. Rugs can be cleaned and durable so you can purchase one that he can step on, play on, or romp on.

Parents can create a cool room decorated by him with just a little bit of money. In the end the room should reflect who he is and what he likes.
